Obert Moyo admitted killing his former partner Perseverance Ncube
In the early hours of a Friday morning, a 999 operator answered a call they will never forget. "There's a guy running after me, I know him," the caller exclaimed, in panic.
That quiet night in November last year was brutally interrupted by Ms Ncube’s jealous former lover, who refused to take no for an answer. If Obert Moyo couldn’t have Perseverance Ncube, then as far as he was concerned, no-one could. But Moyo pursued them, stabbing her to the heart with a skewer. He left her to die as her children lay by her side, comforting her and praying that she’d live. Members of Ms Ncube’s family were in court to witness 46-year-old Moyo face justice.
A single parent, she had been orphaned at the age of six. Her own children will now have to go on without their mother. Among his possessions that day was a picture of him and his ex taken when they’d been together. She was only able to escape thanks to the intervention of a member of the public. A few months into the relationship, Ms Ncube discovered that Moyo had been sending messages to other women. She also learnt that Moyo had asked a mutual friend to borrow money, so he could take them out on dates.
Neighbours noticed how he would turn up late at night, sit in a driveway near her home and watch the house. On one occasion, he spoke with Ms Ncube and said he knew that she had a new boyfriend.
