Former Det Insp Pat Murray has called for a forensic archaeologist to be involved in the dig
A retired cold case garda wants grounds excavated close to rapist Larry Murphy ’s former home - to search for missing women.
A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “An Garda Siochana, acting on information received in mid-2023, in respect of an ongoing investigation in the Garda Eastern Region, carried out a technical examination of a rural location in Co Kildare in late 2023 with the assistance of a third-party contractor and the Garda Technical Bureau.
“I’m not saying that there is something there. All I am saying is that all the indications are at this stage that there may be something there. It would be remiss of the gardai to ignore that and it should be searched properly.” The farmer, who rang Crimecall and spoke to gardai several years ago, yesterday claimed the site should be excavated so families can rule it out. He said: “I saw a mound in the woods. It was about five-foot long and the clay was piled up.
“I don’t believe that they got it wrong. I trust my dogs 100%. I would like to see a digger here. It wouldn’t take long.” Notorious rapist Larry Murphy, 57, is a suspect in the disappearance of 19-year-old Deidre Jacobs, not far from her home in Newbridge, Co Kildare, in 1998.
