A onetime adviser to Donald Trump is criticizing a number of the former president’s aides whom he believes are responsible for his loss in the 2020 election, specifically calling out members of “the disloyalist pyramid” for sabotaging Trump’s time in office.
In a forthcoming book, former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro details the events in the lead-up to Trump’s loss in 2020, condemning a number of people in his inner circle. Among these was Trump’s top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, whom Navarro accused of committing treason.
"It didn't just happen once. It was a pattern," Navarro wrote in his book Taking Back Trump's America: Why We Lost the White House and How We'll Win It Back, a copy of which was obtained by Newsweek."If Cohn objected to the president signing an executive order or presidential memorandum that was in conflict with Cohn's free trade view of the world, Cohn would literally try to make the document disappear, even if the president wanted it to be implemented.
One such document that Cohn purportedly removed from Trump’s desk was an agreement to remove the United States from a “toxic” trade treaty with South Korea within a specific time frame — a policy that Navarro said he drafted himself, according to the outlet. "What this felony-dumb Cohn never understood was that these kind of presidential actions were designed not necessarily to exit such agreements but rather to put pressure on other countries like South Korea so that we could quickly negotiate better deals for American workers and companies," Navarro wrote.
In a 2018 interview, Trump denied that documents were ever taken from his desk, telling the Daily Caller the story was “just made up.”Navarro’s book also criticizes several others in Trump’s inner circle whom he blames for the former president’s loss, including Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, and Larry Kudlow, former director of the National Economic Council.
