Mobster Cornelius Price’s burial plot now has an extravagant headstone and ornaments two years after his death – while the couple he is suspected of murdering 10 years ago remain missing and buried in an unmarked grave.
The mob boss, who was heavily involved in organised crime and is suspected of at least four murders including the killings of Willie Maughan and his pregnant partner Ana Varslavane, died on February 19, 2023 after he contracted a brain disease in 2021. The depraved gangster was buried in Rochdale Cemetery in Manchester following a secret ceremony two years ago and his grave was covered in lavish floral tributes in which he was described as a “legend,” “golden balls”, and “king”, as well as colourful wreaths depicting boxing gloves and vehicles.Now, ahead of the second anniversary of Price’s death – also known as “Nailyboy” – we can reveal images of the gang boss’s extravagant headstone and grave statuettes, including large stone lurcher dogs as well as a large stone hare. Price’s face is engraved in a large stone shaped as a love heart that is placed in the middle of the grave, while the wording “Our warrior, Simply the Best” is engraved in gold coloured paint at the foot of the grave kerb. Images of Price flexing his muscles in front of a large stairway are engraved on two large stones at the base of the grave, while large bunches of flowers also adorn the grave. The stricken gang boss, 41 – who was behind much of the chaos in the lethal Drogheda feud that claimed four lives – is suspected of murdering Willie and Ana. The couple were living in a caravan at Price’s compound in Gormanston, Co Meath, and were planning on moving back to Willie’s family home in Tallaght on the day they went missing 10 years ago on April 14, 2015. Price is suspected of having the couple murdered because they may have had key information about the gang’s activities, including the murder of Benny Whitehouse in Balbriggan in November 2014. Mr Whitehouse is suspected of being murdered as a result of a dispute over the drugs trade in the north-east of the country. Price denied any involvement. It is believed the couple’s remains have been buried in an unmarked grave on land in north County Dublin. Last November, a four-day search on bogland adjacent to land owned by Price was excavated and searched in a bid to find the remains of Willie and Ana after gardai received new information.Willie’s father, Joe Maughan, told us: “Hopefully this will be the year we find Willie and Anna. I feel 100 percent confident that someone might give us the information where they are and clear their conscience. “I feel some people will find it in their hearts to clear their conscience and come clean and then we can finally give Willie and Anna a proper burial.” Price fled to the UK in 2020 from his fortified compound in Gormanston shortly after the gruesome murder of Drogheda teen Keane Mulready-Woods. Price’s mob went to war and sought out those they believed responsible – chiefly the now slain mobster Robbie Lawlor, who gardai believe murdered Keane, 17.
