Former professional footballer Gary Deegan, who won the FAI Cup with Drogheda United last year, has retired from playing and taken on a new role as academy development coach at Bohemians. Deegan, who previously won two League of Ireland Premier Division titles and another FAI Cup with Bohemians, is eager to help the younger generation of players succeed.

The 37-year-old also had spells as a player at Shelbourne, Longford Town, Galway United, Coventry City, Hibernian, Northampton, Southend, Shrewsbury and Cambridge United. “I feel I am in a position where I can help the younger generation. That is something that I am really excited to be part of. Bohs head of academy Trevor Croly believes the former midfielder’s experience at home and in the UK will benefit the young players at the club.
