The Football Association of Ireland has failed in its bid to host the 2029 women's Champions League final at the Aviva Stadium, with UEFA awarding the event to Cardiff's Principality Stadium. This decision follows a competitive bidding process where Lyon won the 2028 final.
The Football Association of Ireland has failed in its bid to host the 2029 women's Champions League final at the Aviva Stadium, with UEFA selecting the Principality Stadium in Cardiff instead.
Despite the FAI's submission in June, the committee awarded the 2028 final to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in France and the 2029 final to Cardiff, which offers a significantly larger capacity than the Aviva. The decision means the final will be held in Wales for the second time, following the 2017 event at the Cardiff City Stadium. The 2027 UEFA Super Cup will be hosted in Amsterdam, while the 2028 edition is set for Astana, Kazakhstan.
Additionally, the Nations League format will change in 2028 to a three-tier system, allowing for playoff opportunities to avoid relegation for teams in League B
