Two of the FAI's head honchos answered questions regarding both Stephen Kenny and Vera Pauw
FAI CEO Jonathan Hill and Director of Football Marc Canham met with the media today to discuss Stephen Kenny's future and the circumstances surrounding Vera Pauw's departure.
The bulk of the briefing focussed on Pauw and the decision not to offer her a new contract. Despite praising the Dutchwoman for her service, Hill stated that himself and Canham decided a 'fresh approach' was needed in order to get the best out of the team moving forward. Hill also rejected Pauw's claims that the FAI undermined her and got involved in team affairs, before confirming that the decision not to offer a new contract came after a thorough review was conducted, a review which Hill stresses was not pre-determined.
On Stephen Kenny, Hill confirmed that he would remain Ireland men's boss for the remainder of this year's Euro 2024 qualifying fixtures and the November with New Zealand. Asked whether Kenny would be manager for a potential play-off in early 2024, Hill was non-committal and said that they would review the situation at the end of the year.
