Kiara Noonan, known for her role in the Irish soap opera Fair City, revealed her son Oscar's battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Oscar, seven at the time of diagnosis, is currently in remission but faces 17 more months of treatment. Noonan shared her experience of noticing Oscar's unusual fatigue, lack of appetite, and paleness, ultimately leading her to seek medical attention.
Fair City actress Kiara Noonan has revealed that her nine-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer. Young Oscar was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in March 2023 when he was just seven. He is currently in remission, but he will receive treatment for another 17 months as he continues his recovery. Kiara said: “Oscar had started to kind of be tired a lot. It was just after Christmas. He was just after getting a Nintendo off Santy, and I thought it might have been wearing him out.
“You’re not thinking it’s anything extreme, but then he wouldn’t really eat, and he used to be a big eater and loved his food.' She told the Sunday World: “He was tired all the time, and I was blaming him for not being asleep at night and then he started to get really pale. “Oscar has always really been pale and if you live with someone you don’t notice them getting paler. You don’t notice it really but other people start saying ‘oh he’s very pale’.” Kiara, who plays Carrigstown's Nikki Duff, sought medical help when she noticed lumps behind Oscar's ears. She said: “He had perked up then just before I was supposed to bring him to the doctor. So I said ‘if you want to go into school you can’. “He came home and again he was so tired and exhausted. Daddy was bringing all the kids up to the ball centre in Charlestown and he started to fall asleep on the table, he wouldn’t even play. “We went to get his hair cut and those lumps were even more obvious on the back of his head and I said ‘I’m not happy with this, this needs to be checked’. “The D-Doc had a nine hour waiting time, but Blanch hospital had an appointment for him.” Doctors took his blood and sent them to Temple Street to be tested.
