RTE is due to announce its strategic framework next Tuesday which sets out its vision for the next five years following a turbulent summer of financial revelations
Fair City cast and crew members feel "a climate of fear" for the future of the beloved soap as RTE pause plans to build new set.
“We were supposed to be building a new part of the outdoor set, for about €70,000, but that’s been scrapped now, the decision came a couple of weeks ago.” One cast member told us that : “There is a climate of fear. If they’re cutting corners, how are they going to do it? Next year’s contract renegotiations will tell because I know that their budget has been affected with the drop in licence fees.”
On Thursday, RTE director General Kevin Bakhurst gave Media Minister Catherine Martin a document setting out its plans for reform and cutting costs. He told RTE employees via email that the document, entitled A New Direction for RTE, would be published on Tuesday, followed by a meeting with staff.
