In Pictures: The character of Jimmy Doyle was one of the audience's favourites from over the years after David Mitchell played the role for 16 year before leaving the soap opera in 2008The garage worker played a central role to life in Carrigstown for a whopping 16 years. Viewers at home watched him grew from a teenager to an outright heartthrob before he broke many a heart as an adult.

However, there was shock in 2008 when Jimmy was written out of the show at age 33. The script showed him emigrating out of Ireland after his mum on-screen Rita Doyle, played by Jean Costello, was placed in a nursing home. For David, it was a case of life imitating art as he later relocated from Ireland to New York City in real life. He actually followed in the footsteps of his character by crossing the Atlantic.

He regularly shared pictures of his family as they got on with day-to-day life in the Big Apple. David is now aged 48 and he is based in Dublin. He also performed at the O2 in the Park Festival in the summer of 2008. He also picked up the Best Male Soap Star title at the TV Now Awards in 2006.
