The mother-of-three, who served as the Irish editor of the Sunday Times newspaper for five years, has been remembered as 'a truly special person' whose 'impact will never be forgotten'

Fiona McHugh, former editor of The Sunday Times in Ireland and co-founder of the Fallon & Byrne restaurant and food hall, has died aged 57.

Fiona studied English and philosophy at UCD before launching into a successful career in journalism. In 2000, she succeeded Rory Godson as editor of the Irish edition of the Sunday Times - becoming one of the first female newspaper editors in Ireland. The food emporium would go on to become an award-winning Dublin establishment, known for the quality of its dining experience and the high-end retail offer.

"What a shock this has been to all, Fiona was like no other woman I have ever met she always lit up the room when she walked in with her gleaming smile and her constant positive attitude," one person said. "What a lose this has been to all, I will never forget how much she talked about how she loved and cherish her dear kids Kate, Jack and Rory and of course her beloved husband. Sending the most love to everyone who has been impacted by this tragedy you will never been forgotten.

Dr Colm Murphy, who worked as business, news, investigations and data journalism editor with The Sunday Times, paid tribute to Fiona as he hailed her as 'an innovator in journalism'.
