Award-winning family butchers that's been serving the Blackburn community for over 100 years
A family-run butchers has been in the heart of Blackburn's community for over 100 years and it's still going strong.
The couple were given the opportunity to purchase the business after Malcolm's boss and the previous owner passed away, with his family not willing to take it on. Now, the business still runs the same way it has for over a century, by offering local, high-quality produce.
Malcolm and the Whittaker's business in general is proud of the fact that the butchers is the last remaining one in Blackburn to source its meat directly from local farms by purchasing through livestock auctions and not wholesalers. During Covid, the butchers had to change their model and operated an online service, which Malcolm tells us is still used by some of the older generation who are still apprehensive of leaving their homes, with about "five to six deliveries a week." Another blow hitting the country is the cost of living crisis, which Whittakers have experienced with people tightening their belts and prices skyrocketing.
