The family of 87-year-old Liam Farrell, who died five years ago, are seeking to meet the Justice Minister after rejecting an open verdict delivered at his inquest. They believe he was killed and are interested in learning more about a man seen talking with him in a pub the night before his death.
The heartbroken family of an elderly man who died rejected an inquest’s ruling and is now seeking to meet the Justice Minister amid fears he was killed. Pensioner Liam Farrell , 87, was found dead on the back doorstep of his rural home almost five years ago.

That really worried her. “This was the most horrific day in my life. I saw someone on the ground but I did not recognise that person as my dad.
Witnesses told the inquest that he was in good form when he left to walk home - but was found dead by his daughter the next afternoon. He was slumped on his back, covered in blood, his shoes and socks were removed, his watch was broken, and his left eye and feet were bruised. His autopsy report was reviewed by State pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan following a request from gardai. Dr Mulligan said the injuries suffered meant that she could not rule out the involvement of another party. Northern Ireland’s former state pathologist Professor Jack Crane also reviewed the original autopsy and claimed Liam’s injuries were consistent with assault.
