Jasmine Johnson, the older sister of Kevin Donel Johnson, Jr., is consoled as mourners gather the day after her brother was fatally shot by San Antonio police near West Laurel and North Elmendorf.The family of Kevin Johnson Jr. — the man shot and killed by police last month during a West Side chase — said on social media Friday that police officials plan to soon release body camera footage that could clarify what occurred during the fatal encounter.
Police officials said at the time that Johnson reached for a gun in his waistband while they were chasing him, but his family has disputed that account — saying Johnson was shot several times in the back while running away. A San Antonio Police Department official told KSAT 12 that officers working to locate Johnson on March 14 were aware of the social media posts, which appear to have since been taken down.
