'We're rustic. Italian food is not complicated. It's simple, poor man's food. My family wasn't wealthy in Italy,' Bernardone said. 'When it comes down to good food, cuisine, in my opinion, it's using the best ingredients possible.'
Resembling a countryside villa, the trattoria specializes in from-scratch pasta handcrafted the way his forebears taught him —"always using the best ingredients possible."It's a go-to restaurant for a romantic dinner for two, a family Sunday dinner or a place to celebrate an anniversary, birthday, promotion or another special occasion. It's also a place to simply relax with good wine or espresso and indulge in a slice of homemade Lime Mascarpone Cheesecake.
"I love the dynamism of the mixture of the culture that's here. I love the history. And I love the Southern charm and the Northerners who are smart enough to come down here for the weather and the beaches," said Bernardone, noting the family had been vacationing in Florida for 15 years prior to moving here.
Bread, pasta and pastries are all freshly made from scratch in-house. They also grind their own meat and make their own sausage. There's no microwave or walk-in freezer at the restaurant, Bernardone said. The couple is gradually debuting specials to the menu already featuring tried-and-true mainstays, customer favorites and original dishes they've created together.
