After over 2 years of opting for the comfiest of athleisure footwear, many of us are living for more reasons to get glammed up and artificially elevate our height a few inches.. However, our feet are rebelling. There is nothing more debilitating on a special day out than that intense burning and swelling in the balls of your feet. Due to the heels hiatus, it might be time to look at some remedies to give you relief. Firstly, foot prep. A little bit of foot care goes a long way. Exfoliating dead skin, moisturising, trimming your toenails and cuticles will help your feet feel Spring ready for their debut. Also these helps prevent chafing and snagging. If you are tender at the back of your heels then apply blister plasters to clean dry skin to act as a barrier. They are most effective used preventively. The thin strap plaster versions can also be applied directly to the shoe in the chafing areas to help halt friction. Using a pea sized amount of voltarol gel on the balls of your feet is numbing and will help reduce inflammation, relieve pain and speed up recovery. Voltarol also comes in medicated plaster and non-medicated heat patch. They're topical treatments that myself and many of my models and clients use on an as needed basis. A lot of women I know who compete in Ladies Day style competitions do this religiously. Cooling sprays are a god send too! They are underrated and can save the day. The Body Shop have a cooling and reviving peppermint foot spray priced at just €9.50, and it's handbag sized. It smells gorgeous and is phenomenal for achy feet. My top tip is to refrigerate the foot spray and put it in a sandwich bag for an occasion that's a marathon not a sprint, such as a full wedding event. Putting it in a sandwich bag stops condensation near your phone and make up compacts, etc. Gel inserts can make a massive difference to your comfort too. Scholl party feet and their full gel insoles are an old school fan favourite, again chilling them for 20 minutes in the fridge is a game changer to swelling reduction. You can shop them on Boots online and most pharmacies nationwide. Aftercare is important, and soaking your feet in warm water with Epsom salts, elevating your legs and using chilled aloe vera gel all aid the situation massively. Wearing broken in shoes makes a big difference and even stuffing them with hot slipper socks until they cool down will help loosen and tight pinching areas. Peep or open toe allow more breathability and swelling than their closed toe counterparts. Did you enjoy these tips and tricks? Do you plan to try them? If you do, please let us know how you get on, and of course if you have foot issues and need medical advice always go to your GP or pharmacist if you feel you may have any allergies or injuries.
