are collaborating for the first time, the two well-regarded breweries teaming up to brew a beer with a proprietary hop blend.
The breweries are known for their India Pale Ales, and the collaboration will focus on an Imperial IPA called Cryohio. It’s a ‘home and away’ collaboration: Fat Head’s will release the ale Monday, May 2, while Columbus will be out with its version in August. Both breweries have cult-favorite IPAs among craft-beer drinkers, Fat Head’s Hop Juju and Bodhi from Columbus.
The folks at Fat Head’s say Cryohio derives its name from hop provider Yakima Chief’s proprietary ‘Cryo Pop’ hop blend. The ale, which also uses Idaho 7 and Simcoe hops, is 8% alcohol and has 90 International Bittering Units. The ale is billed as having tropical notes of melon and stone fruit, with a piney and grapefruit character.
The beer will be available on draft and in four-packs of 12-ounce cans. Suggested retail price is $12.99., was founded in 2008. Columbus Brewing was founded in 1988.
