The black Audi A6, traveling from the Mount Leinster area towards Carlow town, reportedly veered off the road and collided with a tree.
Supt Anthony Farrell of Carlow Garda station confirmed the fatalities and stated that all four occupants were members of the Indian community in Carlow, residing together in the town.The tragedy marks the first anniversary of another fatal collision on the same stretch of road, which claimed the lives of three young friends, Katie Graham, Daryl Culbert, and Michael Kelly. The N80 has been identified as an accident black spot due to heavy freight traffic and its proximity to the M9 motorway and Rosslare Europort. A memorial run is planned for this Sunday in memory of the three victims.Local authorities have acknowledged the road safety concerns associated with the N80. Carlow County Council has implemented some improvements, including signage, and submitted plans to An Bord Pleanála for road realignment. However, these upgrades may take some time to materialize. Councillor John Pender has called for more immediate action, suggesting a motorway construction as a long-term solution to address the high traffic volume and accident risks
