Met Eireann has issued THREE new warnings tonight
Ireland is set for a three day freezing blast, with up to 10cm of snow now expected over the coming days, leading to fears that school closures could be on the cards, as well as hazardous driving conditions.
Speaking on Wednesday night's RTE news, Met Eireann’s Gerry Murphy said: “The air over us is very cold at the moment, then we have a weather system pushing up from the south and once that meets that very, very cold air, it is going to fall as rain, sleet and snow. He added: “We are expecting that the snow will be substantial in places. There will be falls of snow, we’ve issued a yellow level warning but we do expect that there will be pockets of orange level snow which means that it’ll be greater than 3cm to 10cm in places, even higher on the higher ground. The warnings and snow expected has led to fears that there will be school closures in those areas of Ireland worst affected.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror a spokesperson revealed: “There is no requirement for schools to report closures relating to weather events to the Department.
