But, as Belinda Crerar, a co-curator of “Feminine Power”, a new exhibition at the British Museum, points out, some theologians view God as “genderless”. A small figurine on display shows the Hindu deities Lakshmi and Vishnu melded together as one being: an expression of the intrinsic unity and necessity of feminine and masculine powers in Hindu cosmology.
