RTÉ 2FM presenter Fionnuala Jones has brought her newborn daughter Ríona Anú home after an extended hospital stay due to pre-eclampsia complications.
RTÉ 2FM presenter Fionnuala Jones has finally brought her newborn baby girl home after a difficult start to motherhood that saw her spend an extended period in hospital. Jones welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Ríona Anú, with husband Rebel Phoenix, whose real name is Aaron Hartigan, last week.
While Jones had initially been able to leave hospital with her little one, she was forced to make an abrupt return just hours later after experiencing complications from pre-eclampsia.
Fionnuala Jones Shares Homecoming Update
Sharing a sweet update on Instagram, Jones joked that this was their take two on our homecoming as she reflected on the emotional journey home. She wrote that it was emotional and that seeing so many leaves fallen on the way home made it feel like a long stretch in the hospital having gone in in very summery weather on the 21st of September.
The new mum revealed that she has a scheduled appointment back at the hospital to keep an eye on her pre-eclampsia, but is hoping the journey home this time will be very different. She added that they have a scheduled appointment back in there tomorrow to keep an eye on her preeclampsia but it will hopefully be a very different journey home than the last time, which ended with an abrupt return to Holles Street via the emergency department.
Jones said she was buzzing to have their new lil bestie, Ríona Anú, home. And there are plenty of cuddles waiting for the newest member of the family, with Jones revealing that Ríona is already set to meet her firstborn fur bébés.
She ended the relatable postpartum update with a nod to the realities of new motherhood, joking about a prune juice nightcap and keeping it real postpartum.
Pre-Eclampsia Complications Led To Hospital Return
Pre-eclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system, often the liver and kidneys. It typically begins after 20 weeks of pregnancy and can lead to severe, even fatal, complications for both mother and baby if left untreated.
Jones had previously opened up about her unexpected pre-eclampsia rodeo and thanked the hospital staff who had been looking after her and her baby. Her experience highlights the unpredictable nature of the condition, which can require extended hospital monitoring and emergency care.
The return to Holles Street, referring to the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin, underscores the critical care required for managing pre-eclampsia. The hospital is one of Ireland's leading maternity facilities, providing specialized care for high-risk pregnancies.
New Parents Begin Newborn Bubble At Home
Jones and Hartigan announced the arrival of their first child last week, with the new mum previously sharing glimpses of their time in hospital with their daughter. Now, with Ríona finally home, it looks like the new parents can properly begin their newborn bubble together.
The couple, who married in 2022, have been sharing their journey with followers on social media. Jones is a well-known presenter on RTÉ 2FM, and her honest updates about motherhood have resonated with many fans.
As they settle into life at home, the family is focusing on rest and bonding. Jones's scheduled appointment back at the hospital will monitor her pre-eclampsia, but she remains hopeful for a smoother recovery ahead.
