Firefighters were called to a fire at a derelict building in Oldham this morning . Around 6.15am six fire engines and 'a number of' specialist appliances were called to the building on Ruth Street.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service say the fire involved the roof of the building. The fire has been extinguished from above, they say, but they remain in attendance to tackle any hot spots and to make sure it is fully extinguished. while firefighters tackled the blaze. Local residents were also asked to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke.A GMFRS spokesman said: "At 6:15am on Sunday 13 November six fire engines and a number of specialist appliances from across Greater Manchester attended a fire at a derelict building on Ruth Street, Oldham. The fire involved the roof of the building and firefighters tackled the blaze in several sectors.
"An aerial appliance was used to help extinguish the fire from above and firefighters used a number of hose reels and jets to fire the fire. Firefighters remain in attendance to tackle any hot spots and ensure the fire in fully extinguished."
