Multiple babies were born across Ireland in the first few hours of 2025. The Rotunda Hospital in Dublin saw the first birth of the year with Theodore, weighing 4.08kg. Other hospitals across Ireland also reported new births in the early morning hours.
Baby Bradley Tyrell was born 19 seconds after midnight at the National Maternity Hospital to parents Eve Colley and Eric Tyrell. At Dublin's Rotunda Hospital, Theodore, weighing 4.08kg, was born to Martha Gilroy Kelly at nine minutes past midnight. Eight more babies were born at the Rotunda between midnight and 8am. The birth of Theodore brings the total number of babies born at The Rotunda Hospital to more than 900,000 since it opened 275 years ago.
Other births include Rowan, born to Shannon Gibson from Cork City at 20 minutes past midnight at Cork University Hospital, weighing 3.51kg. Naoíse Beggan, weighing 3.54kg, was born to Shannon Kelly at Cavan General Hospital at 12:53am. A baby girl was born at 2.24am at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar to Shaunagh Carverry and Sean Healy from Longford. At Kerry University Hospital, a baby girl, Féile, weighing 4.77kg, was born at 5.41am at home, assisted by midwives Sinead Murphy and Kirsty Hawthorn. At Mayo University Hospital, baby Fíodhna was born at 6.33am weighing 4.5kg to parents Naiomh Higgins and Chris Byrne. At Letterkenny University Hospital, baby girl Norah was born to Sharon and Lee O’Hara at 8.30am, weighing 3.9kg
