J.J. Matijevic said he was surprised to learn of his first call-up to the major leagues after Sugar Land's game Tuesday in Tacoma, Wash.The Astros called up J.J. Matijevic from Class AAA Sugar Land to replace Jose Altuve after the latter was placed on the injured list.
Matijevic has played about half the early season in the minors at first base and the other half in left field. He’s hitting .310 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 11 games. The Astros placed first baseman Taylor Jones on the 60-day injured list to make room for Matijevic on the 40-man roster. Matijevic said he was stunned when Sugar Land manager Mickey Storey called him into his office following the Space Cowboys’ win at Tacoma on Tuesday.
“I’ve always thought about it and always dreamed of it, but actually seeing it happen is really special,” Matijevic said of his first call-up to the majors. “I didn’t know what to say, I was in shock.”More Astros News
