In the latest instalment of the hit RTE dating show, Liam and Conor found a connection - with the Belfast man opening up about his past marriage and coming out story

Liam from Belfast opened up about coming out later in life as he found love with Conor from Monaghan on the latest episode of First Dates Ireland. The 43-year-old flashed his fabulous Turkey teeth at hairdresser Conor from Monaghan, who explained he felt tired of being mistaken for a 'ladies man' when all he wants is an older man.

During their date, Conor asked Liam about previous relationships, when he revealed he was previously married to a woman. My last relationship was six years . We have remained really good friends, it didn't end badly," Liam said."I was in a relationship from when I was 17 with a girl. We got married when I was 26. We had a baby when I was 27, and another baby when I was 29. We separated at 29. "I met someone, a fella, when I was 30 and was in a relationship until I was 36 and then single from 36 until now." Liam added it wasn't easy to come out as gay when he turned 30, but he knew it was the right decision. He continued: "I didn't come out until I was 30, so quite late on in life. It wasn't easy but it wasn't overly difficult either. It had to be done. That was one thing that stayed in my mind all of the time, it was like this is the right thing to do, no matter how difficult it is, it is the right thing for everyone and that's what got me through it. "Even my ex-wife when I told her, initially she was okay. But then we didn't get along for a while, because we were in a long-term relationship. I had to respect that. We get on really well now. Everything's grand with the kids, we're a united team against them." Speaking about the topic of having children, Liam said being a dad was the best job in the world, but he isn't interested in having a newborn in his 40s. He told Conor: "Having kids has really changed my outlook on life and who I am. It is the most amazing experience in the world, no matter how much they do my head in. Would I have loved to have more than two kids? Yes, but that isn't how life worked out for me. "But at this point in my life, I couldn't have a baby, I've done that time - my two are teenagers now. This is my time to do the trips and bits and bobs."Liam gushed: "He was quite open, he was chatty, he was bubbly. There's a bit of banter there, which I was looking for. I didn't want somebody who you're trying to pull a conversation out of."Elsewhere on the hit RTE dating show, sparks flew as as ‘spicy white girl’ Becky from Kilkenny found the shy guy of her dreams in competitive gamer Aaron from Wexford. Nervously venturing in from the cold, gardener Ciarán from Kerry found a cure in the form of former Rose of Tralee contestant Hannah from Cork. And following a tumultuous date in the restaurant last year, Dublin bus driver Kevin regained his Big Dog energy with canine-mad groomer Michelle from Waterford.
