Some 100 gardai and civilian staff work at the site – which runs 24 hours a day and 365 days a year
The site, formally opened by Justice Minister Simon Harris and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris this morning, has been specially built to handle up to 1,000 999 calls every single day.It is here that every emergency 999 call made to gardai in the greater Dublin area is answered within seconds by specially-trained staff, who then deploy rapid response officers on the ground.
The new complex, which is part of a €40 million scheme to have several emergency contact centres including Irish Rail, An Garda Siochana and Dublin City Council, Dublin Fire Brigade and National Ambulance Service, also has banks of high-definition screens – so operators can watch feeds from cameras dotted all over the city and surrounding area.
The DMR Control Centre answer and dispatch resources to approximately 800-1,000 calls each day, and about 39,000 per month. These include 999 calls, alarm system alerts and calls through agencies such as Dublin Fire Brigade and the Ambulance Service.
