Over 100 Gardai conducted a major search and arrest operation targeting an organized criminal gang in West Dublin. The operation followed reports of a brutal torture incident where a rival criminal was allegedly attacked with a blowtorch and branded. Three of the five individuals arrested are believed to be associates of Jay Hennessy Snr, who was murdered in a shooting on Christmas Eve 2023.
Associates of murdered criminal Jay Hennessy Snr were among the five people arrested yesterday as gardai launched an operation against a gang in West Dublin . The major “search and arrest” operation involved more than 100 gardai, who swooped on a number of homes in the area yesterday morning. It came after members of the gang were believed to have tortured a rival criminal during the week, in which they used a blowtorch on the back of his head.
They are also understood to have carved the word “rat” onto the victim. The raids yesterday took place in several homes in the Dublin 15 area. The operation, which was led by detectives and uniformed units from Blanchardstown Garda Station, had significant support from specialised units, including the Emergency Response Unit and Armed Support Unit. Sources have told the Irish Mirror the operation targeted individuals with links to Jay Hennessy Snr. He was shot dead in a shooting at a steakhouse on Christmas Eve in 2023. A source said: “Three of those arrested would have links to Jay Hennessy Snr and are suspected to have been involved in the pretty horrific torture of a man earlier in the week.” Chief Superintendent Michael McNulty of Blanchardstown Garda station said: “This morning’s operation is directly targeting the activities of an organised criminal gang in West Dublin.” Join the Irish Mirror’s breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive breaking news and the latest headlines direct to your phone.
