Ramos is the 7th-youngest player in MLB at 22 years old, but that is nothing new for the youngest of 3 siblings.
SAN FRANCISCO — Whether this initial call-up acts as a permanent introduction to Heliot Ramos or merely a preview of what’s to come, there’s no questioning the potential impact — and intrigue — one of the Giants’ top prospects brings to the big club.
The Giants drafted Ramos out of Puerto Rico, where he attended the Christian Leadership Academy in Guaynabo, a short drive from San Juan on the island’s northern coast and about 30 miles from his native Humacao, on the eastern edge of the island. Going 19th overall, Ramos was the highest draft pick out of Puerto Rico since Carlos Correa was selected first overall in 2012.
After he was drafted, Ramos destroyed rookie ball in Arizona while being nearly three years younger than the average player. The eldest, Héctor, recently retired from professional soccer, where he is the all-time leading goal scorer for the Puerto Rican national team. It was Henry, now 27 years old, whom Heliot followed onto the baseball diamond.
