The flag above Manchester Crown Court is flying at half mast this afternoon as a mark of respect to the victims of Lucy Letby. It comes as the neonatal nurse is set to be taken from the court building to begin spending the rest of her life in prison.

The court heard statements from the families of her victims before Mr Justice James Goss told her she would die behind bars.He said she acted "in a way that was completely contrary to the normal human instincts of nurturing and caring for babies" and said the "cruelty and calculation" of her actions were "truly horrific".As a mark of respect to her victims, the union flag above the court building in Crown Square near Spinningfields is being flown at half-mast.

They said on social media: "There are no winners in this - just many lives that have been irrevocably changed.Following the hearing, Deputy Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Evans, said: "Nothing will bring back the babies who died or take away the pain and suffering experienced by all of the families over the years but I hope that the significant sentence will bring some comfort at this dark time.
