Florida redshirt freshman Jalen Kitna was booked in Alachua County jail Wednesday on two counts of distribution of child exploitation material and three counts of possession of child pornography, based on his use of the social app Discord, Gainesville police announced.quarterback Jon Kitna, is scheduled for a court appearance Thursday. The University Athletic Association announced that Kitna has been suspended indefinitely from the football program.
“We are shocked and saddened to hear of the news involving Jalen Kitna,” the UAA said in a statement. “These are extremely serious charges and the University of Florida and the UAA have zero tolerance for such behavior.” Gainesville police say they received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which indicated that a Discord user distributed images of child sexual abuse material. A detective served a search warrant to Kitna at the player’s residence, where Kitna admitted to sharing two images that he believed to be “legal,” police said in a release.
Kitna said he realized he should not have shared those two images, based on the reaction from another Discord user in the chat, police said. Kitna’s electronic devices were seized as part of the warrant, and police said preliminary analysis revealed three additional images of child sexual abuse material.
