Blake Wesley, interviewed during the NBA draft after he was picked 25th overall by the Spurs, scored 20 points in a Summer League loss to Cleveland on Friday. Wesley and the other young Spurs played the Warriors in a Summer League game on Sunday in Las Vegas.LAS VEGAS — Blake Wesley’s first official NBA postgame interview almost began with disaster.
“It’s always nice to get the first one out of the way,” said Spurs Summer League coach Mitch Johnson, whose team continued play against Golden State on Sunday. “There’s always a little angst, a little nervousness.” He opened his first game by taking three of the Spurs’ first four field goal attempts, all jumpers — and all misfires.
Of all the Spurs’ youngsters, Johnson said he expected the uber-athletic Wesley to open the game as if shot from a cannon with his braided hair on fire. After his slow shooting start, Wesley scooted for a reverse layup. He followed with another tough finish in traffic, drawing a foul in the process.
