San Diego Community Power expects to better SDG&E's overall bills by 1.5%
“Since we are still a startup company, we want to maintain and build our reserves as much as possible,” SDCP board member andUnder the 2023 rate plan, SDCP staff estimated a typical residential SDCP customer using 327 kilowatt-hours of electricity in a month would pay a total monthly bill of $132.86, while a customer on SDG&E default rate would pay $134.86. That’s a difference of $1.95, or 1.5 percent less.
Customers who want to opt for 100 percent renewables can enroll in SDCP’s Power100 plan, which is more expensive than PowerOn. With the rate changes adopted Monday, choosing Power100 will cost almost the same as SDG&E’s base rate .. “We’re delivering a better product at a lower cost.”SDG&E warned its customers with gas hookups for heating and cooking that the price per therm will double this month.
While SDCP does not purchase natural gas in its power portfolio, the CCA said the spike has an impact because 45 percent of SDCP’s portfolio consists of non-renewable energy sources such as natural gas. Also, SDCP officials said that since cleaner energy sources in California are in high demand, the power purchase price for renewable contracts is similar to that of conventional fossil fuels.
