James McCallum is counting down the days as the cycling competition comes to Glasgow next week 🚴
A former professional cyclist born and bred in the city has welcomed the UCI Cycling World Championships, describing the 11-day event as "special" for Glasgow.
The former athlete is looking forward to the Cycling World Championships which is coming to Glasgow's Emirates Arena and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome next week.James told GlasgowLive: "It feels like a whole lifetime ago that I was an athlete. The fact that the championships is going to happen in a week’s time, it’s phenomenal to think something of that size is coming to Glasgow, it’s so exciting.
"When you are riding round there’s loads of random people shouting your name, it’s amazing how they know you and recognise who you are. It’s a unique, if not surreal, experience. Speaking on his career, he added: "I’ve been in this sport for over 30 years. To see how mainstream is has become is very impressive.
