Simon Coveney, the former tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland, has been appointed as a non-executive director of Reliance, a Cork-headquartered industrial engineering and robotics component distributor. Coveney, who held senior Cabinet positions including Minister for Foreign Affairs during the Brexit negotiations, said he was honored to join the board of the 100-year-old family business.

The company, which distributes a range of mechanical, electrical and agricultural products, specialising in automation and robotics, is based in Little Island, Co Cork but opened a 6,0000 sq ft facility on the eastern outskirts of Limerick City in 2019. He said: “Throughout my political career, I have always emphasised the vital role family enterprises play in the economy. Joining one with a 100-year legacy is an opportunity I value greatly.”
