Former Liverpool Academy coach Steve Cooper is set to be named the new manager of promoted Premier League side Leicester City

Former Liverpool Academy coach Steve Cooper is set for a return to Premier League management in charge of promoted Leicester City.

Cooper is in talks with the Foxes having been out of work since he was sacked by Nottingham Forest last December after more than two years in charge, during which he took them from the Championship to the top flight. A report in The Telegraph has stated Leicester are hopeful of appointing the 44-year-old later this week as they look to replace Enzo Maresca, who ensured the East Midlands an immediate return to the Premier League last season by winning the Championship before being named new manager at Chelsea.

They announced losses of £89.7million earlier this year.

Cooper joined Liverpool as an Academy coach in September 2008 and was in charge of the under-18s when he moved to the FA in 2013, where he eventually became coach of the England U17s side and led them to success in the U17 World Cup in India in 2017. He then spent two years in charge at Swansea City in the Championship before moving to Forest.
