LANDOVER, MD - CIRCA 1975: Paul Silas #35 of the Boston Celtics in action against the Washington Bullets during an NBA basketball game circa 1975 at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. Silas played for the Celtics from 1972-76. Former NBA All-Star Paul Silas, the father of Rockets coach Stephen Silas, died on Sunday. He was 79.
Stephen Silas will not be with the Rockets for their game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday with lead assistant John Lucas expected to coach the team. “I told him it was going to happen,” Paul Silas said at the time. “I knew it was going to happen for him. They wanted to get him. He said, ‘I don’t think it’s going to happen, Dad.’ I said, ‘It is.’ And it did. I’m just happy as heck.”
