Appearing on Ireland AM, she told Tommy Bowe and Muireann O’Connell: “We’re looking at people’s lives, it’s a conversation. Mary, myself and one other human being, and we’re just chatting. Having a cup of tea and a Tunnocks tea cake and chatting.” She went on to say: “One of my favourite people in the entire planet, I’m waking up to her every morning. Sharon Shannon. Sharon Shannon and Steve Earle; Galway Girl, get’s me out of bed every morning and then straight in to dancing around the kitchen to Blackbird.”caught up with the two Marys earlier this year as they launched their podcast. They discussed their friendship, with Mary McAleese saying they became friends as they were in the same walking group.
“It started out when we did the Camino together way back in 2008. I brought a group of friends, Mary brought a group of friends and off we went.” Mary Kennedy added: “We have lost two of our walking friends down through the years, both very tragically, but our group is still very tight. This month, twenty of us are off to hike in Bobbio, Italy in the footsteps of St. Columbanus.”
