Seventh graders show their potential on final night of district meet

This month's seventh graders could potentially be future high school standouts. Plenty of talent was on display at this month's district meet that gave us a sneak peek to that future. From the Pasadena ISD seventh grade district track and field meet at Allan Brown Stadium earlier this month, new names made their debut on the local athletic stage.

Jimenez captured district titles in the 800-meter run and the 300-meter hurdles to go along with being the anchor to the Tigers’ 4 by 200 team that won district. Five points went to each member of that championship team. Park View Intermediate’s Lakee Marbley-Baker is next on the points list after scoring 16 points over two events. He secured the district title in the 200-meter run, nipping Jackson in the process, while finishing with the bronze medal in the 100 meters.

Among those names, Vega tallied the lone district championship when he won the 400-meter dash in 1:03.55. Toussaint was second at 1:03.97 and Perez nabbed third. San Jacinto’s Cesar Escarzaga scored nine points as well. His night was topped by securing second place in the grueling 2400-meter run, a trip of six laps around the track. Jackson’s Leonardo Tamez and Anthony Cavazos bagged eight points and Bondy’s Hayden Gonzalez did too.

Then comes more Thompson athletes in Alexis Martinez and Persephone Soria plus Park View’s Vanessa Moncivaiz. Park View’s Leah Hernandez, South Houston’s Alyssa Zipps and Southmore’s Aaliyah Whitaker were other standouts on the final night.
