The European Bar Guide has released its 2025 list of the top 100 bars in Europe, with four Irish pubs making the cut. The guide, known for its rigorous evaluation based on drink quality, ambiance, character, amenities, and value, highlights Irish pubs renowned for their traditional charm, exceptional drinks, and unique atmosphere.
Four Irish pubs have been recognized among the best bars in Europe by the prestigious Europe an Bar Guide. This annual guide, which highlights the top 100 pubs and bars across the continent, evaluates establishments based on five key criteria: drink quality and selection, ambiance and decor, character and local atmosphere, amenities and events, and value for money. These factors are then combined to determine an overall 'pub going factor' score.
The 2025 edition of the European Bar Guide recently unveiled its list, featuring four Irish establishments among the elite. Taking the 28th spot is Tig Bhric, a renowned traditional pub and restaurant nestled in the breathtaking West Kerry Gaeltacht on the Dingle Peninsula. Operated by the same family since its establishment in the 1890s, Tig Bhric boasts a charming garden brewery producing unique beers using its own water source. The European Bar Guide lauded Tig Bhric with a 9.5 out of 10 rating, characterizing it as 'a small West Kerry brewery with cask beer in a wonderfully cozy pub with views of the peninsula.' Visitors can partake in a tour of the brewhouse, witness the brewing process firsthand, and savor a selection of craft beers in the traditional pub setting.Just ahead of Tig Bhric at number 24 is Dublin's iconic Grogan's, a beloved destination for generations of pub enthusiasts. Occupying a spot on South William Street since 1899, Grogan's has earned its reputation as a haven for writers and literary figures since the 1970s. The pub's allure lies in its authentic Dublin pub ambiance, relying on engaging conversation and a simple menu of pints and toasted sandwiches to attract patrons. Notably, Grogan's eschews music (both live and recorded) and television, and until recently, accepted only cash payments. Dick Mack's in Dingle secured a place among the top 20 best bars in Europe, ranking at number 17. Established in 1899, this historic pub, located on Green Street opposite the Church, continues to thrive under the ownership of the MacDonnell family for four generations. Dick Mack's is celebrated not only for its exceptional Guinness but also for its eclectic interior. Whiskey enthusiasts will find solace in its impressive selection of Irish whiskeys, which have garnered numerous accolades. The pub also hosts renowned traditional Irish music sessions, featuring notable musicians that have graced its stage throughout the years. Finally, the highest-ranked Irish pub in the European Bar Guide's latest list is John Kavanagh's 'The Gravediggers' in Dublin, claiming the 14th position among Europe's best bars. Known as 'Heaven in Glasnevin,' The Gravediggers was founded in 1833 and is widely considered to serve the finest pint of Guinness in Dublin. This no-frills establishment maintains a unique atmosphere by forgoing music, television, or Wi-Fi, creating an experience that transports patrons to a bygone era. The European Bar Guide awarded The Gravediggers a remarkable 9.6 out of 10, praising its ambiance as 'like stepping into a painting, the wash of colour and calm on a quiet afternoon as beguiling as its buzzy evening rhythm. Adored by the locals who know they live near one of the best pubs in Europe. Known, rightly so, for pouring a superb pint.' Topping the overall list for the fourth consecutive time is La Fleur En Papier Doré/Het Goudblommeke in Brussels, described by the guide as 'pub-going at its finest.
