The names of four more people who died when a blast ripped through a petrol station in County Donegal have emerged.
Ireland is in mourning after 10 lives were taken in the ‘tragic accident’ in Creeslough, Co Donegal.Mother Catherine O’Donnell and her son James have been named locally as victims.It comes afterLeona’s brother Anthony said he ‘couldn’t have asked for a better little sister’.Catherine O’Donnell has also been identified as one of the blast victimsA photo shows the wreckage Letterkenny Rugby Club said: ‘There are no words that feel strong enough at a moment of deep sorrow such as this’.
Jessica, a Creeslough native, is thought to have lived in the apartment above the petrol station with her boyfriend. Her loved ones have described her as a ‘lovely girl who had a lot of friends’ who are now ‘distraught’ at her sudden death.A further eight people injured in the explosion remained in hospital on Saturday following a huge recovery mission.
Irish police currently believe the blast that destroyed the Applegreen service station and convenience store and damaged adjoining buildings was accidental. Garda Superintendent David Kelly said: ‘At this point in time we have to keep an open mind in how we investigate this, but our information at this point in time is pointing towards a tragic accident.’Two women console one another at the scene After visiting the scene of the tragedy, Taoiseach Micheal Martin said there was ‘deep sadness’ in the village and a ‘terrible silence’ reflecting the enormity of what has happened.
