Foxtel customers have threatened to cancel their subscriptions after the latest episode of Game of Thrones was broadcast in such poor quality. 9News
“We are continually monitoring our broadcast to maximise the service quality to ensure it’s the best it can be.”So, who is to blame for the 80-minute night-time Battle of Winterfell being hidden in a sea of black and pixels if Foxtel isn’t the guilty culprit?
Fabian Wagner said the crew intended for the lengthy battle scenes to appear claustrophobic and disorientating to make them realistic, adding the cinematic show had always been dark.Wagner said the problem was due to compression of the episode and the conditions in which people watched the show. While there are still the same number of pixels on the screen, compression means provides less details in darker scenes to save bandwidth – this results in the signal not having as much information on what colour each pixel should be.Sadly, even the latest premium TV models also struggle with the lack of source information so rushing out to buy the latest OLED won’t completely resolve the issue.
