“Women are different to men. They are more emotional. So this is different.'
France coach Herve Renard veered into Kenny Shiels territory on the eve of his side’s Euro 2025 qualifier against Ireland, when he described the difference between coaching women’s and men’s teams. He led Morocco to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, when they finished bottom of their group behind Spain, Portugal and Iran.
But speaking on Monday afternoon in Cork, he courted controversy when he made remarks similar to former Northern Ireland boss Shiels two years ago. “The football is still the same. But the management outside, to prepare the game, it is completely different.“And I am sure when I finish with the French women’s national team, it will put a lot of new things in my head. For the future it will be important for me.”
