More than 23,000 couples got married in Ireland last year

New figures from the CSO there were a total of 23,173 marriages in 2022 - a 143 per cent increase on 2020 figures. 64 per cent of all marriages last year were through a religious ceremony, while 26 per cent were civil ceremonies.2 in every 5 marriages were Catholic, while almost 1 in 10 were performed by The Spiritualist Union of Ireland.Friday was the most popular day of the week to tie the knot for opposite sex couple while same-sex couples favoured Thursday weddings.
