Frustrated by small problems? Me too — but let’s all take a deep breath | Opinion
One of my mantras since the beginning of this pandemic: Give everyone grace.
On the worst of days, if you’re one of my close friends, that might mean listening to a detailed play-by-play of an outrageous customer service interaction in which I might have allowed too much edge in my voice or too much smirk on my face. There are some careers out there that make room for daytime medical appointments. Teaching is not one of them. That’s why we cram our calendars full with every medical visit possible all summer. Yet sometimes we’re forced to see specialists in the middle of a random Thursday, meaning we arrange for a substitute teacher and write detailed plans for our absence that include as many contingencies as possible.
The third try was the charm, and I thanked the tech for working her scheduled shift, resisting the urge to hug her. She drew six vials of blood, and then I drove about 25 miles home. As I pulled onto my street, the tech called and apologized for allowing the blood to hemolyze. I would need another blood draw.
