Michael Gove and Andrea Leadsom became the latest Conservative MPs to step down in a mass exodus of MPs ahead of the General Election on July 4.
In the two days since the General Election was announced, a huge influx of MPs have announced they will be standing down.A post-war record of nearly 80 Conservative MPs has stepped down ahead of the General Election, surpassing the previous post-war record of 72 Tories who stood down ahead of the 1997 election.They joined former prime minister Theresa May, Sajid Javid, Dominic Raab, Matt Hancock, Ben Wallace, Nadhim Zahawi, John Redwood in stepping down ahead of the July 4 election.
Many MPs, including former sports minister Dame Tracey Crouch and Alicia Kearns, Conservative chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, were both visibly emotional as they said their goodbyes.
