The Eurovision star died surrounded by family at the age of 88 last Friday in St Vincent’s University Hospital
. His funeral mass will take place at 10.15am on December 12 at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, Cabra West.
The musician’s death notice reads: "Richard Rock, Donnybrook and Cabra West, Dublin, passed away on 6th of December 2024, peacefully, surrounded by his loving children at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Father of Jason, John, Richard, Sarah-Jane and Peter.
He was born in Dubin’s North Strand but grew up in Cabra. In 1966, he represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest and came in fourth place. President Michael D Higgins has led tributes to the late musician, saying he was an "iconic figure". "May I extend my deepest sympathies to Dickie's children Jason, John, Richard, Sarah Jane and Peter, and to all of his family, friends and many fans throughout Ireland and abroad."
