Fury as senators decide to take time off with Brexit less than two weeks away

The Oireachtas is in crisis mode with the possibility of Britain crashing out without a deal on March 29.The move has been criticised by many senators, who told the Irish Mirror it is “embarrassing” they were sent home with so many important issues ongoing.

Their basic salary for a three-day week – which officially starts on Tuesday at 2pm – is €66,940. However, that’s only the headline figure as they also enjoy a number of allowances. Most senators the Irish Mirror talked to said they are angry with their party and group bosses for cancelling the sitting last month.
