Over 2,000 homeowners in Ballyconnell, Cavan, have been without power for two weeks following Storm Éowyn. Residents are furious at the ESB's lack of response and are planning to march on the Dáil and refuse to pay their bills. The storm has caused tens of millions of euros in damage to the ESB network, and the costs are expected to be passed on to customers next year in the form of price increases.

Furious residents still without power in a small Cavan town will march at the Dáil and refuse to pay their electricity bills.

“Over 13 days, I have been given 17 different restoration dates or times. It has been restored without being restored three times. It’s been deleted from the system three times—I might do the same with my payment.” Mr Heaton said: “He should have been relieved of his duties as soon as he said that yesterday when he said 'you will need to pay for it next year'.

While some of the faults in the vicinity aren’t even showing on the ESB website, many aren’t expected to be restored until February 9. “The government is more worried about what’s happening with Trump than people here. The election is over so they don’t care.” “Some of them were older and saying they were okay because they were here before electricity. But, when you called with a dinner or whatever they needed they were crying because they were so grateful, even though they said no.
