The 2 Johnnies are back with a new installment of their popular podcast series that investigates the 'GAA Catfish' case. After initially exposing a catfishing scheme in 2022, the podcasters have received new reports of victims, leading them to believe the same individual is operating under a new alias.
The 2 Johnnies have reignited their popular podcast saga about the infamous ' GAA Catfish' with a third installment in the series that gripped the nation back in 2022. The original two-part series unravelled a web of lies by a person they named 'Nicki' who deceived Johnny B for months. The podcaster believed he was messaging a 'drop-dead gorgeous' woman he met online, but later learned it was all a ruse, which involved a complicated network of fake social media accounts and elaborate tales.
The dramatic story got even more scandalous when it emerged that the same 'Nicki' had deceived up to 40 other men from around the country, including high-profile GAA players and men from the entertainment industry. At the time, The 2 Johnnies said they were never going to reveal the true identities of anyone involved and a planned BBC documentary covering the scandal was in the pipeline, however 'Nicki' reportedly declined to participate. Now, after the dust had settled and the story had mostly fallen from the minds of listeners, the plot has taken yet another twist. It seems that the same Catfish has re-emerged once more, now under the alias of 'Aoife Kennedy'. In the new episode, the Johnnies say they have been contacted by several men who believe they were victims of catfishing last year. Upon further investigation, the lads say it is the same original GAA Catfisher. The podcasters are adamant they are not bringing the story to light again 'to shame anyone' however they are eager to prevent further harm to victims and are calling on social media companies to do more to tackle fake profiles. 'In 2022, we never imagined revisiting the GAA Catfish. But as new stories emerged, we felt compelled to act. This episode is not about shaming anyone but about raising awareness and preventing further harm,' the podcasters said. 'It’s time to address this issue and call on social media companies to do more to combat fake profiles.
