'The 72-year-old, who has been working in Manchester for nearly 50 years despite living in London, has a drastically different love life from Gail, having only walked down the aisle twice in her life.'
Helen Worth has been playing Gail Platt on Coronation Street since 1974 and over those 49 years, the character has been on a rollercoaster ride.
Helen's first husband was actor Michael Angelis, who is best known for narrating the Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends children's series. The pair were together from the mid-70s and finally tied the knot in 1991, but their marriage hit rocky ground after he had an affair in 1995. "The worst thing was that I knew it was going to be in the papers the next day. To know that the rest of the world had to know about my pain was just unbearable." Helen claims at the time neither of them wanted to throw away the 21 years they'd spent together, so they decided to try and rebuild their relationship.
Helen felt like she was 'drowning' and being 'dragged down' as their relationship finally fell apart, so she threw herself into work to cope. "I was afraid to let go. I just couldn't imagine a world that didn't have Michael in it," she said.
